You can buy the most expensive lights and the fanciest nutrients, but you can’t out-grow bad genetics. If you start with a weak seed, you’re fighting an uphill battle from day one.

• Know Your Environment: If you are growing outdoors in Ontario or similar northern climates, time is of the essence. Our autumns can get cold and wet fast. Look for Fast Flowering photoperiods or Autoflowers that finish before the frost (and the mold) hits in October.

• Bend, Don’t Break: gently bend and tie down the main stem while the plant is young. This exposes the lower branches to direct light, tricking the plant into thinking it has multiple “tops.”

• The Result: Instead of one main cola, you get a flat canopy of thick, uniform buds that all receive equal light. This technique is free and can double your yield per plant!

5. Patience During the Cure

You’ve chopped your plants, trimmed them, and dried them. You’re ready to smoke, right? Stop!

The drying and curing process is where 50% of the quality comes from. “Hay smell” is usually caused by drying too fast or skipping the cure.

• The Snap Test: Dry your buds slowly (60°F/60% humidity is ideal) until the small stems snap rather than bend.

• Jar It Up: Place your buds in airtight glass jars (burping them daily for the first two weeks). This breaks down chlorophyll and brings out those complex terpenes. A 4-week cure turns harsh smoke into smooth, aromatic clouds.
